Music services from six London boroughs have come together to create a single new hub – ensuring children and young people across the region can continue to access high quality musical opportunities.
The South East London Music Hub is a newly-formed consortium, comprising Bexley Music, Bromley Youth Music Trust, Royal Greenwich Music Service, Lambeth Music Service, Lewisham Music and Southwark Music.
Each partner is the current music hub lead for its borough. This experience and expertise will ensure the continued delivery of diverse and high-quality music education for children and young people.
The development of this strategic partnership is part of a national investment by the Department for Education, managed by Arts Council England, to ensure music is accessible to all.
The South East London Music Hub is one of 43 new Hub Lead organisations, which will be co-ordinating music education in regions across the country. Working with schools, community groups and individuals, hub partners deliver instrumental and curriculum lessons, workshops, ensembles, choirs, concerts, music training for teachers and much more.
Head of Bexley Music, one of the six partners in the South East London Music Hub, Julie Stanning, says:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with the other music hub leads, to continue delivering high quality music education across our region.
“Our new consortium has within it a huge amount of expertise. We are committed to sharing this best practice across our network and maximising the funding we have in dynamic and innovative ways.
“Our collective aim is to ensure that music is fully accessible to every single child and young person. Music plays such an important role in our children’s lives, supporting cognitive, social and emotional development – as well as bringing huge enjoyment and improving wellbeing.
“We look forward to working with our partners to create the very best music education opportunities for all – both now and in the years ahead.”
